The New Jersey Devils will be a team to watch incredibly closely during the 2025 NHL off-season. After a quick playoff exit, the expectation is that they will be aggressively looking to improve their roster this summer. Because of this, in a new series for The Hockey News Devils, we will look at pending free agents from each NHL team New Jersey should consider targeting.
In this first edition of the series, let's focus on the Vancouver Canucks.
Adding a top-six winger should be a big priority for the Devils this off-season, so a player like Brock Boeser has the potential to grab their attention. There is a good chance that the skilled winger will be hitting the market on July 1, and he could be a massive addition to a Devils club that needs more scoring.
If the Devils signed Boeser, he could fit very nicely on their second line and power play due to his strong offensive play. In 75 games this season for the Canucks, he had 25 goals and 50 points. This is after he had 40 goals, 73 points, and a plus-23 rating in 81 games in 2023-24. With numbers like these, he could give the Devils' forward group a significant boost if signed.
Pius Suter may not be as flashy of name as Boeser, but he would still be an excellent player for the Devils to bring to New Jersey. The Devils need to upgrade at their third-line center spot, and Suter would give them just that. This is because the 29-year-old forward is a solid two-way forward who chips in offensively and plays a solid defensive game.
Suter is also coming off a strong season with Vancouver, recording new career highs with 25 goals and 46 points. He also works on both special-team units and can play on the wing, so he would offer the Devils a lot of different options if signed.
