The New Jersey Devils have made some new additions to their roster this off-season, but it would be understandable if they tried to make more before the 2025-26 campaign is here. When looking at their roster, it is fair to argue that they could use a bit more forward depth, especially.

There are still some intriguing free agents left with the August just about here, and a specific one who the Devils should seriously consider taking a chance on is Luke Kunin.

Kunin, 27, would offer the Devils another solid option for their bottom six if signed. This is because the 2016 first-round pick is a hard-nosed forward who offers plenty of versatility, being able to play both center and on the wing. Furthermore, he also works on the penalty kill because of his defensive play, so he would be able to help the Devils in this area as well if signed.

Kunin spent this past season split between the San Jose Sharks and Columbus Blue Jackets, where he had 11 goals, seven assists, 18 points, and 187 hits. Overall, it was another solid year in a bottom-six role for the Missouri native, and he could do the same for the Devils if brought in.

Nevertheless, with the Devils needing more depth, there would be no risk in them taking a shot on a gritty forward like Kunin on a professional tryout (PTO) or a cheap one-year deal. It will be interesting to see if they pursue him from here.

This was after Lammikko spent each of the last three seasons in Switzerland's National League with the ZSC Lions.
