Brad Shaw will join the New Jersey Devils as an assistant head coach.
The announcement was made by President/General Manager Tom Fitzgerald on Tuesday morning.
For the past three seasons, Shaw was on the Philadelphia Flyers coaching staff. On March 27, 2025, Shaw was promoted from assistant coach to interim head coach following the firing of John Tortorella. In that short duration, Shaw led his team to a 5-3-1 record.
The 61-year-old's coaching resume includes stops with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Detroit Vipers, Springfield Falcons, Cincinnati Mighty Ducks, New York Islanders, St. Louis Blues, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Vancouver Canucks.
Per the press release, " In 2000-01, Shaw served as the head coach of the Detroit Vipers (IHL), where he coached current Devils' Head Coach Sheldon Keefe, who was in his first professional season. Shaw started his coaching career as a player-coach with the Vipers in three of his last four professional playing seasons before his final NHL playing stint."
Another Devils connection noted is that Shaw was behind the bench when current Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations for the Devils, Martin Brodeur, played his final NHL season with the Blues in 2014-15, and as Brodeur took the role of Assistant General Manager in 2015-16.
Shaw replaces Ryan McGill, who worked with the Devils' defense since the 2022-23 season. New Jersey's newest assistant coach will officially begin working with Keefe on July 1.
