New Jersey Devils forward Dawson Mercer is undoubtedly a player to watch closely next season. When looking at the Devils' current roster, he is one of their most important forwards. Due to this, they will be hoping for the 23-year-old to have a much-needed bounce-back season in 2025-26.
Since posting career highs with 27 goals, 29 assists, and 56 points in 82 games with the Devils in 2022-23, Mercer has had trouble replicating that kind of production. During the 2023-24 season, he had 20 goals and 33 points in 82 games. He then followed that up with 19 goals and 36 points in 82 games with New Jersey this past season. Overall, he has put up decent numbers, but his 2022-23 season shows that he has the potential to make a more significant impact.
If Mercer can get his offense back up to the 25-goal and 50-point range, it would be significant for a Devils club looking to cement themselves as legitimate contenders in the NHL. When noting that he is still just 23 years old, there is reason to believe that he can improve his offensive totals again, while also maintaining his steady defensive play.
Itt will be very interesting to see what kind of season Mercer can put together with the Devils in 2025-26 from here.
