New Jersey announces two roster moves ahead of Thursday's practice.

NEWARK, N.J. -- Ahead of the New Jersey Devils' noon practice, the organization made two roster announcements.
Veteran defenseman Brendan Smith, who sustained a sprained knee, was placed on injured reserve. He joins Dougie Hamilton, Tomas Nosek, and Jonas Siegenthaler.
The corresponding move was 23-year-old Santeri Hatakka receiving his first call-up as a member of the Devils.
"I thought he played well; I thought as camp went on, he played better," Ruff said of Hatakka's training camp. "The game he played on Long Island, the last game, was something that really gave us a lot of encouragement because he really skated well, he got up with the play well. I just thought his reads were really good in that game."
Hatakka was acquired by the Devils on Feb. 26, 2023, as part of the Timo Meier trade. He previously made his NHL debut as a member of the San Jose Sharks on Oct. 30, 2021, versus the Winnipeg Jets. He has appeared in nine games and has two assists. His last NHL appearance was on April 17, 2022.
