Ethan Edwards, recently recalled by the New Jersey Devils, has tallied five points in his first 13 AHL games with the Utica Comets this season.
The Devils selected the defenseman 120th overall in the 2020 NHL Draft. He was the 27th pick in the fourth round.
Last season, Edwards split his time between the Utica Comets and the University of Michigan. In 10 games with the Comets, he recorded three points. In 36 NCAA games, he registered 21 points (5 goals, 16 assists). In 2025, the Big Ten Second All-Star Team selected Edwards. He spent four seasons at the University of Michigan, where he played alongside Devils defenseman Luke Hughes for two seasons [2021-22 and 2022-2023].
The Devils announced that they had placed Cody Glass on Injured Reserve retroactively to November 12 and recalled Edwards.
Edwards participated in Monday’s practice, skating alongside Hughes. The full defensive pairings from Monday's practice are below.
Jonas Siegenthaler - Simon Nemec
Ethan Edwards - Luke Hughes
Dennis Cholowski - Dougie Hamilton
Edwards was filling in for Brendan Dillon, who was kept off of the ice on Monday for precautionary reasons.
After practice, Edwards spoke with the media and The Hockey News’ Kristy Flannery about his mindset on playing with the Devils.
"Just finding my pro game and solidifying my defense-first mentality,” Edwards said.
Edwards is on the road with the team as they take on the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight. The puck drops at 7 PM.
