The New Jersey Devils have officially gotten their roster shakeup started, as they traded forward Erik Haula to the Nashville Predators.

NHL News: Devils Trade Veteran Forward To Predators NHL News: Devils Trade Veteran Forward To Predators The New Jersey Devils have announced that they have traded forward Erik Haula to the Nashville Predators in exchange for defenseman Jeremy Hanzel and a 2025 fourth-round pick.

Due to this, let's discuss two more Devils who have the potential to be traded this off-season now.

    Dawson Mercer

Dawson Mercer has been discussed as a potential trade candidate for quite some time, and he is certainly a player to watch this summer. The 23-year-old forward stands out as exactly the kind of valuable trade chip that the Devils could use to try to land a notable upgrade to their forward group. This is because he is a young former first-round pick who has shown signs of having top-six potential in the past.

Mercer is coming off another down offensive season, as he had 19 goals and 36 points in 82 games in 2024-25 with the Devils. This was after he recorded 33 points in 82 games with the Devils in 2023-24. Overall, the 2020 first-round pick has had trouble replicating his 26-goal and 56-point 2022-23 campaign, and it is fair to wonder if he could be made expendable for the right price because of it.

    Ondrej Palat

If the Devils can find an interested suitor for Ondrej Palat, it would be understandable if they moved the veteran forward. Trading Palat would free up a notable $6 million of cap space, which would create more wiggle room for the Devils to afford bringing in a top-six forward this summer.

Palat, 34, appeared in 77 games this season with the Devils, where he had 15 goals, 28 points, and a minus-3 rating. Overall, the 13-year veteran had a bit of a rough year, and it will be interesting to see if the Devils trade him like they did with Haula because of it.
