The Devils could use more secondary scoring and should consider keeping an eye on this Islanders forward because of it.

The New Jersey Devils are in a good place at the 4 Nations Face-Off break. At the time of this writing, they have a 31-20-6 record and currently sit third in the Metropolitan Division standings. With this, it is clear that they will be buyers at the 2025 NHL trade deadline.

One area that the Devils should focus on improving is their secondary scoring. They could use another scoring winger, and the New York Islanders have an interesting potential one in old friend Kyle Palmieri.

Palmieri's name has come up in the rumor mill this season. It is understandable, as he is a pending unrestricted free agent, and the Islanders currently do not hold a playoff spot. It has not been established that he's been made available, but he could become a prime rental candidate if the Islanders do not move up the standings as we inch closer to March 7.

If the Devils acquired Palmieri, he could slot nicely in the club's middle six, perhaps on their second line. In addition, he would be an obvious option for their power play because of his ability to create offense.

Palmieri, 34, is having a solid season with the Islanders, posting 16 goals and 37 points in 55 games. This is after he scored 30 goals and posted 54 points in 82 games this past season with the Islanders.

In six seasons as a Devil from 2015-16 to 2020-21, Palmieri had 140 goals and 266 points in 397 games. He was also an All-Star with the Devils in 2018-19.
