During this past off-season, the New Jersey Devils traded defenseman Kevin Bahl to the Calgary Flames in the deal that landed them star goaltender Jacob Markstrom. It is fair to say that Bahl benefited from the change of scenery, as he cemented himself as a nice part of the Flames' defensive group this season.

In 73 games this campaign with the Flames, Bahl recorded new career highs with three goals, 17 assists, 20 points, and 116 blocks. He also averaged 21:53 of ice time per game, played in Calgary's top four, and was a key part of their penalty kill.

Now, Bahl has been rewarded for his solid first season in Calgary.

According to PuckPedia, Bahl has signed a six-year, $32.1 million contract extension, which was later confirmed by TSN's Chris Johnston. Starting next season, the former Devils defenseman will carry a $5.35 million cap hit with the Flames.

This is undoubtedly a big payday for Bahl, and he will now look to continue to improve his game with the Flames from here.

In 148 games over four seasons with the Devils from 2020-21 to 2023-24, Bahl recorded four goals, 25 points, 261 hits, and a minus-1 rating.
