NEWARK, N.J. -- Erik Kallgren was set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer after completing his one-year contract with the New Jersey Devils. The goaltender spent the entire season in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Utica Comets, starting 16 games and earning four wins.
Once the Comets season concluded, Kallgren decided to leave North America and continue his career overseas. On May 3, the 27-year-old signed a three-year contract with Brynäs IF of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL).
"My family and I are very happy to come to Gävle and to have signed with Brynäs, Kallgren told the club's website. "It will be fun and a big honor to represent a club with so much history and to play in a city with such a great interest in hockey. I'm really looking forward to the coming season and meeting everyone in and around the club."
