The New Jersey Devils announced the club acquired Cody Glass and Jonathan Gruden in a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins for Chase Stillman, unsigned draft choice Max Graham, and New Jersey’s 2027 third-round draft pick.
Per the press release, Gruden will report to the AHL to the Utica Comets.

It was widely known that the Devils were looking for a center to add to their lineup, and Glass provides another option for head coach Sheldon Keefe. He can also be utilized on the penalty kill.
"(He adds) size and speed," Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald said of Glass. "You know, he has played wing and center and gives us optionality. We want to be bigger. We want to be faster, and he gives us that."
Fitzgerald also mentioned that bringing him in creates competition with everybody else on the roster.
The Vegas Golden Knights selected Glass sixth overall in the 2017 NHL Draft. On July 17, 2021, Vegas traded him to the Nashville Predators for Nolan Patrick. The Predators then moved him to Pittsburgh for Jordan Frasca, a third-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, and a sixth-round pick in 2026 on August 13, 2024.
He has appeared in 238 career NHL games and has 86 points (33 goals, 53 assists). This season, he has four goals and 15 points in 51 games.
