An update on Devils trade target Jake Evans has been provided by NHL insider Pierre LeBrun.

It is not a secret that the New Jersey Devils want to add to their roster before the 2025 NHL trade deadline. One forward who they have been linked to throughout this season is Montreal Canadiens center Jake Evans

Now, TSN's Pierre LeBrun has provided a big update regarding Evans. According to the NHL insider, the Canadiens and Evans are far apart on contract talks, and it is becoming likelier that he will be traded by the deadline.

"As discussed at intermission during on our Habs TSN broadcast, my understanding is Jake Evans and the Canadiens have exchanged numbers on what an extension might look like and they’re not close," LeBrun reported in an X post. "Obviously things can change with one phone call, but as of now that makes it more likely Evans gets dealt before the March 7 deadline. Calls from teams asking about Evans have increased lately with the Habs’ slide in the standings."

With this, the Devils should consider making a more significant push for Evans immediately. He would provide them with a major upgrade at the third-line center spot and also would be another option for their penalty kill.

Evans, 28, is thriving with the Habs this season, posting 11 goals and 27 points in 56 games. With numbers like these, he is on pace to crush his current career highs of 13 goals and 29 points, which he set in 2021-22.

It will be interesting to see if the Devils end up being the lucky team to acquire Evans from here.
