NEWARK, N.J. -- Despite the interest surrounding New Jersey Devils forward Tyler Toffoli, general manager Tom Fitzgerald says he is not shopping the 31-year-old.
"I'm not shopping Tyler Toffoli," Fitzgerald said. "Tyler and I sat together in L.A. We had a great talk. Tyler knows how much I'd like to bring him back, but unfortunately, right now, there's a possible term difference. That doesn't mean we can't revisit this past the Deadline if he's still here or in the offseason.
But the reality is teams have called on him, and what a return looks like; I wouldn't be giving away a player, my leading scorer, that's for sure, just to gain future assets. But the reality is those future assets could help us down the road."

Through 60 games, he has amassed 44 points (26 goals, 18 assists) and a team-leading eight power-play goals.
Toffoli is in the final season of a four-year, $17 million contract ($4.25 million average annual value) and will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
The winger was acquired from the Calgary Flames in a trade on June 27, 2023, in exchange for Yegor Sharangovich and a third-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft. He was brought in because of his goal-scoring ability.
"He is a top-six player. He has proven that he is a pure goal scorer, and to win hockey games, you need to score goals," the general manager said at the time of the acquisition.
It is worth noting that in 2020, Fitzgerald said he was not actively shopping Blake Coleman but eventually moved him to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for a 2020 first-round pick (Shakir Mukhamadullin) and Nolan Foote.
Toffoli is expected to play alongside Nico Hischier and Timo Meier on Tuesday night against the Florida Panthers. He has five points over his last five games and four goals, and four assists in 16 career games against the Panthers.
The Devils are eight points behind the Philadelphia Flyers for third in the Metropolitan Division and the Detroit Red Wings and Lightning, who have secured the wild card spots in the Eastern Conference.
The 2024 NHL Trade Deadline is Friday, March 8.
