NEWARK, N.J. -- The New Jersey Devils reportedly traded veteran winger Tyler Toffoli to the Winnipeg Jets on Friday afternoon. TSN's Darren Dreger was the first to report. The organization has not confirmed the trade.
The Devils kept Toffoli out of the lineup on March 7 against the St. Louis Blues for precautionary trade-related reasons.
New Jersey acquired the 31-year-old via a trade on June 27, 2023, from the Calgary Flames. Toffoli has appeared in 61 games for the Devils and has accumulated 44 points (26 goals, 18 assists).
He celebrated two hat tricks with the Devils this season. The first against his former team, the Montreal Canadiens, in October and then the Vegas Golden Knights in January.
On March 5, Fitzgerald spoke about his leading goal scorer during his press conference.
"I'm not shopping Tyler Toffoli," he said. "Tyler and I sat together in L.A. We had a great talk. Tyler knows how much I'd like to bring him back, but unfortunately, right now, there's a possible term difference. That doesn't mean we can't revisit this past the Deadline if he's still here or in the offseason."
"The reality is teams have called on him, and what a return looks like; I wouldn't be giving away a player, my leading scorer, that's for sure, just to gain future assets," he continued. "But the reality is those future assets could help us down the road."
