A breakdown of all the news and notes shared during Lindy Ruff's pregame media availability.

Ahead of the New Jersey Devils Jan. 6 game versus the Vancouver Canucks, the organization announced a few roster moves. At 5:00 P.M., head coach Lindy Ruff addressed the media and provided a few injury updates and corresponding roster moves. Let's break it all down.

  • Timo Meier (mid-body) has been placed on injured reserve, retroactive to Dec. 30, 2023. He sustained an injury in his team's 5-2 loss to the Boston Bruins and has missed the last two games. The power forward has appeared in 28 games this season and has tallied 15 points (nine goals, six assists). Meier has already missed playing time this season with a previous lower-body injury.
  • When the organization announced Meier's move to IR, they also announced that forward Max Willman was recalled from the Utica Comets (American Hockey League). This is the 28-year-old's second recall, as he appeared in four games in November, collecting one goal.
  • Jack Hughes is dealing with an upper-body injury he sustained during the team's Jan. 5 game versus the Chicago Blackhawks. There is currently no timetable. Ruff said they will have a full update once he goes through all the protocols.
  • According to Ruff, Ondrej Palat is still rehabbing and progressing, but there is no timeline for returning to the lineup.
  • On Jan. 5, Ruff provided updates on Dougie Hamilton and Tomas Nosek, who have been on injured reserve. The 6-foot-6 defenseman is a long way from returning, while the veteran forward is closer but "not in a situation to start skating yet."
  • Nolan Foote, who suffered an upper-body injury during training camp, was not skating as of Jan. 2.
