The New Jersey Devils have multiple players with expired contracts as we inch closer to July 1. One of them is trade deadline acquisition Cody Glass, as he is a pending restricted free agent. Now, a notable update has been provided regarding Glass.
In his most recent 32 Thoughts column, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported that the Devils are not expected to send Glass a qualifying offer. If this ends up being the case, he would become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
The Devils would still be able to re-sign Glass under these circumstances, but if he becomes a UFA next month, all other teams would be able to make offers for him as well.
Glass was acquired by the Devils from the Pittsburgh Penguins at the 2025 NHL trade deadline. In 14 regular-season games with the Devils following the move, he recorded two goals, seven points, and a plus-4 rating. He also had zero points and a minus-2 rating in four playoff games.
Glass was selected by the Vegas Golden Knights with the sixth overall pick of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. In 252 career games split between the Golden Knights, Nashville Predators, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Devils, he has recoded 35 goals, 58 assists, and 93 points.
