Jake Allen is returning to the Garden State.
Multiple reports confirm that the New Jersey Devils re-signed the veteran goaltender to a five-year contract with an average annual value of $1.8 million.
The Fredericton, New Brunswick, native started 31 games for the Devils in 2024-25, completing New Jersey's tandem with Jacob Markstrom. Allen earned 13 wins, four shutouts, a 2.66 goals against average, and a .908 save percentage.
It was no surprise to see Fitzgerald pursue Allen, as he had been complimentary of his goaltenders' performance the previous season.
"We liked our tandem," he said. "We felt it was one of the better tandems in the league. You look at (Allen's) numbers, (they were) very good. His professionalism, the way he interacted with (Markstrom) as the backup, is very important in a tandem. They got along very well."
Markstrom and Allen were both drafted in 2008, a few picks apart in the second round.
"We have played 15 years pro already together," Allen said. "We have grown up together, playing against each other."
Throughout his 12-year career, Allen has started 436 NHL games playing for the St. Louis Blues, Montreal Canadiens, and Devils. He won the Stanley Cup with the Blues in 2019.
