After parting with the New Jersey Devils as an unrestricted free agent, Nathan Bastian has a new place to call home.

On Saturday, Bastian, 27, signed a one-year contract to join the Dallas Stars.

Over his six seasons in the NHL, the depth winger suited up for 276 games, and 264 were with the Devils, who drafted him in 2016.

He began the 2021-22 campaign as a member of the Seattle Kraken after the organization selected him during its expansion draft. After 12 games in the Emerald City, he was placed on waivers. The Devils promptly claimed him, bringing him back to New Jersey.

During his end-of-season media availability, Bastian shared that it would mean everything to continue his tenure with the Devils.

"It is crazy how quick a place can feel like home," he said. "Not that it has been a short time, but I think since the time I was drafted, I am the longest-standing Devil still here. Being here means a lot to me — the city, the rink, the staff, and you guys. It is something I want to be a part of."

With the Devils retooling their depth and letting five of their bottom-six players walk in free agency, it was not a surprise to see the 6-foot-4 forward sign with another team.

Born on  Dec. 6, 1997, in Kitchener, Ontario, Bastian is coming off a season where he appeared in 59 games and collected 10 points (four goals, six assists).
