The New Jersey Devils arrived at MetLife Stadium in matching Sopranos-inspired tracksuits.
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The New Jersey Devils arrived at MetLife Stadium in a very appropriate style for the 2024 NHL Stadium Series.
On Saturday evening, around 5:15 P.M., Devils captain Nico Hischier led his team off the bus in a Tony Soprano-inspired tracksuit complete with a guinea tee, gold chains, and slicked-back hair.
Erik Haula, Brendan Smith, and Curtis Lazar followed in different variations of the same look with matching gold watches and hairstyles.
"We had two or three different ideas and had a team vote; we put it on the board," Tyler Toffoli said. "Ended up coming up with what we came in with. It got some good reviews. It looked better than we imagined, and we had fun with it."
One of the other ideas was the iconic Bruce Springsteen with the red hat in the back pocket.
The attention to detail put the team's arrival outfits over the top.
Jesper Bratt and Timo Meier entered the stadium holding espresso cups and matching pinky rings.
"We just came up with the espresso. That was very spontaneous. I love a good espresso," Meier said. "I had (an espresso) at the rink. Then Bratt brought a refill cup, so he filled my espresso up again. So, I'm ready to go with two espressos already in my system."
After the team earned a 6-3 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers, Hischier and Nathan Bastian addressed the media in their guinea tees and tracksuits.
Bastian scored twice for his first multi-goal game of the 2023-24 season. A reporter asked the 6-foot-4 winger how much the chains and the shirts contributed to the win and if they would carry that to the next game.
"I don't think we are allowed to wear this again next game," he said with a laugh. "Nico (Hischier) took care of us. As a group, we decided on something very Jersey-themed that we wanted to be part of. I just showed up, and everything was ready to go in my stall. It was easy and a lot of fun for us."
The Flyers wore matching "Rocky" outfits, including gray sweatsuits, canvas sneakers, and black skull caps. The club completed the look with fully taped-up hands.
