Czechia beat undefeated Sweden and Switzerland outlasted Canada in a shootout to advance to the finals of the 2024 IIHF Men's World Championship.

Czechia and Sweden combined for four goals in the first period that ended tied at 2-2. The second period is where Czechia left their mark on the game. Three consecutive goals from Ondrej Kase, Martin Necas and Dominik Kubalik gave Czechia a 5-2 lead. Lukas Sediak scored twice in the third period to put the game to bed for Czechia.

Ondrej Palat finished as a -2 with one shot on goal in the semi-final win. He'll be guaranteed his first-ever medal at the World Championship when he plays in the final on Sunday.

Nico Hischier, Jonas Siegenthaler and Akira Schmid will be joining Palat in the Gold Medal game after defeating Dawson Mercer and Nico Daws. Canada trailed 2-0 after the first period but goals from Brandon Tanev and John Tavares got them all tied up.

Mercer finished with a shot on goal that came on a breakaway. Hischier finished with two shots on goal and Siegenthaler fired one puck at Jordan Binnington. Schmid and Daws both did not get the start for their nations.

Canada will play Sweden in the Bronze Medal game on Sunday as well.
