Luke Hughes, Simon Nemec, Ondrej Palat, Nico Hischier and Jonas Siegenthaler were in action during Day 4 of the 2024 IIHF Men's World Championship.

Hughes and Nemec faced off as Slovakia beat the USA in overtime. Slovakia jumped out to a 2-0 lead but early into the second period, a Hughes rebound was picked up by Matt Boldy. Boldy's goal cut the deficit until Nemec released a one-time bomb to restore the two-goal lead.

Team USA began their comeback in the third period thanks to goals from Shane Pinto and Brady Tkachuk. With less than five minutes to go, Hughes picked up the puck in his own zone and went end-to-end to score and tie the game.

In overtime, Milos Kelemen redirected a Nemec shot to give Slovakia the overtime win.

The young Devils defensemen have been excellent for their countries so far. Nemec leads all Slovakian defensemen in points and Hughes is tied for the lead in goals by an American and tied for second in points.

Hischier and Siegenthaler were victorious over Palat in the Switzerland and Czechia matchup. Hischier was a driving force for Switzerland all game. He picked up an assist on Kevin Fiala's power play goal. Hischier drove the net late in the third period and was caught in the face by Ondrej Kase's skate. Hischier had to leave the game briefly but returned in a new jersey wearing number 49. Switzerland had a short power play in overtime but were not able to capitalize.
