
Three New Jersey Devils players were in action during Day 2 of the 2024 IIHF Men's World Championship.
Dawson Mercer and Nico Daws beat Great Britain 4-2, Luke Hughes scored in a 6-1 win over Germany and Ondrej Palat scored an empty net goal in a 6-3 win over Norway.
Mercer played on a line with Brandon Tanev and Jack McBain. He was held off of the scoresheet but recorded two shots on goal. Joef Hofer made the start for Canada making Daws the back-up goaltender.
Hughes was once again an effective defenseman for Team USA. He scored a goal and recorded two shots on goal. He picked the top corner on his goal to give the U.S. a 4-1 lead. With the win Team USA improve to 1-0-1-0.
After Czechia won a 1-0 in a shootout over Finland in their first game of the tournament, their offence improved drastically in their second game against Norway. Palat scored an empty net goal and picked up an assist on Czechia's fifth goal of the game. The host country now has five points leading Group A.
Mercer, Nico Hischier, Jonas Siegenthaler, Simon Nemec and possibly both Daws and Akira Schmid will be in action for Day 3.
