Timo Meier will return to SAP Center when the New Jersey Devils face the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night.
Meier was drafted ninth overall by the Sharks in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft and spent seven seasons playing in San Jose. He appeared in 451 games and earned 316 points.
The power forward was the Sharks representative at the 2022 NHL All-Star Game in Las Vegas, where he participated in the hardest shot competition.
Ahead of tonight's 10:30 P.M. EST puck drop, Meier spoke to attending media about his return to California.
"It definitely feels weird being back for the first time. I spent a lot of time here," Meier said. "It's definitely special. It's going to be weird tonight. But it's an important game for us. We need to win a hockey game. When the puck drops, it's straight business."
After the Sharks practice on Monday, Logan Couture, Mario Ferraro, and Kevin Labanc spoke with Max Miller of The Hockey News about their former teammate, Timo Meier.
Labanc on What Meier Was Like in the Locker Room:
"He was hardworking. He was kind of relaxed, but once it got to game time, he was very serious. I mean, you can see that he got the contract that he did, and he's produced the goals and assists points that he has. He's a great player."
Ferraro on Meier's Development During His Time in San Jose:
"(Meier) grew his game through his confidence year by year. He shot from everywhere. He had a really big shooting mentality and had a lot of success that way. He was scoring a lot of ugly goals and a lot of nice goals, too. Just finding ways to put the puck in back the net like most goal scorers do in this league. That's what I've noticed in the time that I was here. He got better at finding ways to put the puck in the net and be around the good areas."
Couture on What Kind of Teammate Meier Was:
"He's confident. He's got that personality where he believes he can do anything. Great guy who got along really well with everyone. I think he fit in well with our group (and) was a good young player to have on the team because he wanted to get better and he wanted to pop. I loved playing with (Meier)."
