Mathieu Darche is just over a week into his tenure as GM of the New York Islanders, yet he has already made his presence felt.

The newly appointed GM relieved coaches Tommy Albelin and John MacLean of their duties, as well as the entire Bridgeport coaching staff.

Forward Kyle Palmieri and defenseman Adam Boqvist have also been signed to extensions, though it is believed the deals were negotiated under Lou Lamoriello.

Darche has also been present on social media — something new for the Islanders front office — recently appearing on TVA Sports:

There, Darche listed who he views as the Islanders core, naming Mathew Barzal, Bo Horvat, Noah Dobson, Alexander Romanov, and Ilya Sorokin.

It was also mentioned on the podcast how Darche believes the Islanders are capable of reaching the playoffs, so it is believed he will stay strong to this core while piecing together the remainder of the puzzle
