The New York Islanders have dealt with a ton of issues over the course of their shaky 2023-24 campaign.
One major reason while Patrick Roy's squad isn't sitting a in a playoff spot with 11 games to go is due to their second-period struggles.
After allowing three goals in the middle frame in their 4-0 shutout loss to the New Jersey Devils on Sunday, the Islanders have now allowed a league-high 99 goals in the second period.
"I wish I had the answer on this one," Roy said when asked about the middle twenty. "But at the same time, I mean, I think we talked about it. We're making some mental mistakes at the wrong time. And it cost goals."
