New York City, N.Y: The New York Rangers defeated the Anaheim Ducks 5-1 with Chris Kreider scoring two historic goals.
"Mister Power Play Goal" tied Adam Graves for third place in goals in club history (281) also scoring his 500th career point on his first tally. On the second tally, he notched his 100th career power-play goal and passed Graves to take sole possession of 3rd place in goals in club history.
Mika Zibanejad was elated for his friend, "It's cool, especially for an organization like the Ranger, original six, all the legends and big names that have played here, he's getting up there in those records...You're not gonna get much out of him but I'm super proud... a long answer for being super proud of him."
He was spot on, as the Ranger's power play weapon was more focused on tomorrow's contest than his achievement tonight, "It's hard to talk about right now I guess especially post-game and with a game tomorrow, happy with the result tonight and we are headed to Boston."
Following the win, head coach Peter Laviolette said, "Especially in one city to stay here and do that in New York too, he's been amazing since the time he got here."
It hasn't been a recent appreciation from standing behind the Rangers bench for Laviolette, "I thought this before my time, I think he's one of the best down around the net area, in front of the net, just off to the side of the net."
Only two New York Rangers in history are ahead of Kreider in goals in the history books for a club that has existed since 1926. The question is now emboldened, will No. 20 hang from the rafters when all is said and done?
At least for a moment, that can be shelved, as the New York Ranger traverse to Boston to take on the Bruins tomorrow, Saturday, December 16th at 7:00 (EST). It is the team's 8th back-to-back set of the season.
