The New York Rangers remain the leaders of the pack in their quest for the President’s Trophy after a 4-3 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Friday night.

Jonathan Quick was the winning goaltender making 30 saves on 33 shots. He has now added another win after he set the record for most wins by an American-born goaltender last Saturday.

Barclay Goodrow scored two goals tonight and doubled his season total to four. Kreider scored the lone goal of the third period to pull the Rangers ahead.

The Rangers went up 1-0 5:58 into the game when Will Cuylle got the Rangers on the board first with an unassisted goal. The Red Wings turned the puck over with a blind, back- pass right to Cuylle who then skated into the slot and ripped a shot past Alex Lyon.

The Blueshirts lead only lasted 1:13 as the Red Wings tied it shortly after. Andrew Copp, the former Ranger was the goal scorer.

Joe Veleno dumped the puck into the Rangers zone, retrieved it, and passed it in front to Copp. A fortuitous bounce off the defender’s skate sent the puck right to Copp who scored 7:11 into the game. Mo Seider tallied the secondary assist.

With 29 seconds left in the first period, the Rangers took their lead back. Barclay Goodrow finished a quick play off the faceoff. Brodzinski won the puck back to Vesey, who quickly played it to Goodrow in the slot.

Goodrow ripped the puck past Lyon to put the Rangers up 2-1. New York would enter the first intermission with that lead. The Rangers led in shots 14-13 after one period.

Just 1:24 into the second, Jeff Petry fired the puck toward the crease, where it ricocheted into the net off the skate of JT Compher to make it 2-2. Compher’s 17th of the season was assisted by Petry and David Perron.

The Red Wings took their first lead of the night with 6:41 to go as a faceoff was won back to Gostisbehere, who went across to Perron whose one-timer hit the post. A perfect rebound popped out to Larkin who fired the puck past a confused Quick to make the score 3-2.

Goodrow scored his second goal of the game 25 seconds later to tie the game at three. A solid zone entry had Brodzinski drop the puck to Vesey, whose shot produced a perfect rebound for Goodrow to rip into the net, tying the score at three.

The game was tied 3-3 after 40 minutes. In the second, New York took 14 shots again, where this time Detroit only had nine.

Kreider broke the third-period tie with a power play goal. Panarin passed the puck to Zibanejad whose one-timer was stopped. Kreider found the loose puck and scored the rebound to give the Rangers the 4-3 lead with 9:46 left in regulation.

That Kreider goal was all that was needed as the Rangers held on for the 4-3 win.

The Rangers gave now won 25-plus road games for the fifth time in franchise history and second time in three seasons, after accomplishing the fete in 2021-22.
