Let's not get too crazy with happiness over last night's 3-2 win over San Jose. Not with a four-game road trip coming up Sunday, starting in Seattle.
Not with chronically-ill Fiery Fil Chytil possibly in trouble after he suffered what they like to call an "upper-body injury."
We realists prefer looking at the Czech's record of concussions-plus and are left to wonder – since we don't know a whole heckuva lot about the injury's nature – if he'll play next week, next month – or ever.
Beating one of the lowest-scoring teams in NHL history by a single goal as the New Yorkers did on Thursday may not seem like a big deal; because it isn't, other than two cheap points.
Not with Seattle next (on Sunday), Vancouver, Calgary and Connor McDavid on the Western calendar.
Now for the good news. Mika Zibanejad is alive.
Having read some scary, silly reports in the last couple of days about Marvelous Mika having "mental" issues, you might have thought he was on an express track to a looney bin.
He's battling "demons," according to one report and -- if that's as serious as it sounds – I'm sure that either Rangers or NHL sources will be sure to address the problem.
What problem?
Z scored a big goal; made a non-demon headline with the NHL.com scoring against the Sharks. Then, he said that he couldn't wait to go home and celebrate with his family.
Not a demon was mentioned and no demons were reported in the victor's room.
How many times does The Maven have to say that The Sweet Swede is on the downside of his career. It happens to 31-year-olds with worn treads – not demons – on their tires.
Tread or no tread, Mika's talents will be needed on the road trip. And if his medical report is kind to Fiery Fil, his as well.
Right now the worry is more about Chytil and not Mika but only time will tell in both cases as the Rangers go West.
How well are they? Well, folks, they're well over the .500 mark. How about them apples!!
