The New York Rangers have acquired centerman Alex Wennberg.
With the New York Rangers sitting atop the Metropolitan Division, adding was always on general manager Chris Drury's mind.
Unfortunately, the Rangers lost centerman Filip Chytil for the season due to concussion issues, which put their attention to acquiring a centerman before Friday's 3 PM Trade Deadline.
On Wednesday evening, the Rangers went and got their center, acquiring Alex Wennberg (50 percent retained) from the Seattle Kraken for their 2024 second-round pick and 2024 fourth-round pick:
Wennberg is a pending unrestricted free agent who carries a cap hit of $4.5 million but the Rangers are only responsible for $2.25 million.
That leaves the Rangers with $2.898 million to play with.
The 29-year-old has nine goals and 16 assists in 60 games and is likely to skate as the third-line center alongside Wille Cuylle and Jimmy Vesey.
