The Philadelphia Flyers took on the New York Islanders in a make-or-break game at the Wells Fargo Center, where head coach John Tortorella emphatically assessed his team's performance as "soft."
"Only one guy played—the goalie [Ivan Fedotov]," he said. "He's the only guy that played...There are certain people where they don't have a clue how to play or just don't have it in them to play in these types of situations."
Tortorella scathingly added: "That second period was embarrassing to the Philadelphia Flyer uniform."
Noah Cates snapped a 15-game goal drought to open up the scoring, putting the Flyers up 1-0 in the first period.
The Islanders were able to tie things up, courtesy of a goal from Matt Martin.Th
The Isles quickly took the lead, with Bo Horvat scoring another goal almost immediately.
Travis Sanheim was able to bring things level again at 2-2, netting a goal early in the second period.
The Isles weren't done yet, though, taking a 3-2 lead on a goal from Anders Lee to finish out the second period.
It was looking bleak for the Flyers, but Morgan Frost salvaged the Flyers a point by tying things up 3-3 with just about 10 seconds left in the game.
Unfortunately for Philadelphia, the Islanders managed to snag the puck away, where Brock Nelson buried it to take the overtime win.
The Flyers will have an ample gap between games, with their next outing being an away matchup against the Buffalo Sabres on Apr. 5 at 7:00 p.m. EST.
