Philadelphia Flyers captain Sean Couturier has exited the game against the New York Islanders after a ramming into the boards and directly hitting his shoulder.
Couturier had been seeing the ice on the first line for the first time in several games, and looked to be making a positive impact on the game, but the collision with the Islanders' Ryan Pulock forced him off the ice and down the tunnel.
As the period marched on, assistant coach Darryl Williams could be seen listening to something over the radio on the bench before turning and saying something to head coach John Tortorella, who shouted an expletive. It's unclear whether or not this interaction was related to Couturier's situation, but the captain did not come out with the team for the second period.
There currently have not been any updates on Couturier's status.
The 33-year-old center only just returned to play this season after sitting out for nearly two years with a back injury.
