The Philadelphia Flyers made the first trade of the 2024 NHL Draft, and traded their initial No. 12 pick to the Minnesota Wild in exchange for the Wild's 13th overall pick and a third-round selection in 2025, selecting Jett Luchanko at No. 13.

The Flyers caused quite a stir when GM Danny Briere was seen on the phone right as the Flyers were about to make their pick, signaling that a trade could be taking place. This assumption turned out to be correct, as the trade horn sounded and NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman announced that the Flyers had traded their No. 12 pick to the Minnesota Wild in exchange for the Wild's No. 13 pick and a third-round selection in 2025.

A center currently playing on the OHL's Guelph Storm, Luchanko wasn't a name that came up too frequently when people speculated about who the Flyers could take, but has the qualities to fill the gaps in the center position that Briere has mentioned need to be addressed.

While not the player really anyone expected the Flyers to take, it looks like the Flyers' front office have a plan in mind that specifically included Luchanko, and they're willing to take whatever action necessary to see that plan fulfilled.
