The Flyers' promising young defender is coming back for another season.
The Philadelphia Flyers have re-signed one of their top prospects.
Tuesday evening, the Flyers inked 23-year-old defenseman Egor Zamula to a one-year contract extension worth $775,000. Zamula was set to become a restricted free agent this summer.
Zamula's 2022-23 season was cut short after he underwent surgery on his left shoulder last month. However, he is expected to recover in time for training camp.
Prior to his shoulder injury, Zamula put together a solid season in Lehigh Valley, logging a goal and 19 points in 44 games with the Phantoms. He also showed some encouraging flashes with the Flyers, posting four points in 14 games.
Zamula has turned out to be a nice find for the Flyers after signing with the club as an undrafted free agent in 2018. At 6-foot-3, Zamula is a rangy defenseman with solid puck-moving ability. He's no finished product, but offers some enticing traits from the back end.
Zamula will compete for a full-time roster spot in training camp this summer.
