Philadelphia Flyers' forward Owen Tippett was spotted wearing a dog mask after the game, but what does that mean?

The Philadelphia Flyers keep on cruising through their opponents of late. They won against the St. Louis Blues last night 4-2 in commanding fashion. They out-shot the Blues (42-30), beat them in the faceoff dot (59.6% vs 40.4%) and played relatively mistake free hockey (only three giveaways).

A huge part of the victory is owed to Owen Tippett - who scored the game winning goal. The most impressive thing about the goal is not the fact that he scored it, but how he scored it.
What a highlight reel goal. He dekes around Justin Faulk and then backhands the puck past goalie Joel Hofer. That goal came at 14:27 of the third period.
Here's a mind boggling stat: that impressive goal from Tippett was one of 10 shots from the forward. He finished the game with 16:25 of ice time.

For his efforts Tippett was given the player of the game award from his teammates. Every team has this award, but every team picks something different to give their teammates.
For the Flyers, it's a dog mask and a black chain.
So the next time you hear someone say that a Flyers player "has got that dog" they may be speaking literally - at least in this sense.
The Flyers next game will be at home on January 18 against the Dallas Stars.
