Danny Wild-USA TODAY Sports - Flyers Surging Goalie Should Hit New Level

After appearing in 12 games for the Philadelphia Flyers in 2022-23, goaltender Samuel Ersson became the club's starting goalie last season and played in 51 games. Overall, it was a solid first full season in the NHL for the 24-year-old, as he posted a 23-19-7 record, a 2.82 goals-against average, and four shutouts.

While Ersson naturally had growing pains during his rookie season, especially due to his high workload, the 2018 fifth-round pick's campaign was undoubtedly successful. Now, his goal in 2024-25 will be to take a big step forward, and he certainly has the potential to do so.

At points this past season, Ersson showed that he has the tools to be a very good NHL goaltender. Now that he is heading into next season more adjusted to the sport's most competitive league, it would not be shocking in the slightest if he puts together a stronger campaign in 2024-25.

Ultimately, when playing at his best, Ersson showed this past season that he has the potential to be a key piece of the Flyers' goaltending. It will now be very interesting to see what kind of season he can put together for the Flyers in 2024-25 because of it from here. He and Ivan Fedotov could be a sneaky-good tandem.
