The Philadelphia Flyers and Anaheim Ducks have made a big trade. The Flyers have traded top prospect Cutter Gauthier to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for defenseman Jamie Drysdale and a 2025 second-round pick.

Gauthier was selected with the fifth-overall pick of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft by the Flyers, and he was expected to be a long-term part of their future. However, in a massive turn of events, he is heading to Anaheim.

Gauthier, 19, is currently having a big season with Boston College, as he has 13 goals and 23 points in his first 17 games.

While it stings that Gauthier has been dealt, they also got a nice return for giving up his signing rights. Drysdale is a young defenseman with high potential but has also had injury trouble over the last two seasons. In 10 games this season, he has one goal and five points.

The Flyers are hoping that this change of scenery can help Drysdale take that next step and become the top-pairing defenseman many believe he can be.
