The Philadelphia Flyers take on the Detroit Red Wings today at Wells Fargo Center. The Flyers will look to get their 17th win of the season against the 15-10-4 Red Wings.

This game features two teams who have surprised fans and media alike with their early season performances. While in the middle of a rebuild the Flyers have solidified themselves as a defensive juggernaut in the league, boasting the fifth best penalty kill and eighth best goals against per game.
Conversely, the Red Wings sit in the first of two wild card positions after finishing 7th out of eight teams in the Atlantic Division last season with 80 points. At the time of this game they have 34 points in 29 games.
Today's game will be a classic "unstoppable force meets immoveable object" scenario. The Red Wings are a surprisingly gifted offensive team this year. With the additions of Alex DeBrincat and Patrick Kane this season the team is averaging 3.69 goals for per game.

The immoveable object here is the Flyers, who's tutelage under John Tortorella is reaping massive benefits this season. The consistent work ethic of this team is impressive and is keeping them in games. Their goaltending is keeping them in every game.
Whether it's Carter Hart or Samuel Ersson, the goalies will keep the Flyers in the game. The key for the Flyers will be to neutralize the Red Wings big guns as well as the players who are on hot streaks of late. Obviously they want to be aware of where Kane, Raymond, DeBrincat and Larkin are at all times. Michael Rasmussen also needs to be paid attention to, as he has scored five goals in his last five games.
The game starts at 7PM Eastern Standard time.
