Back in September, former Philadelphia Flyers forward James van Riemsdyk signed a one-year, $900,000 contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets. This was after he had 11 goals, 38 points, and a plus-7 rating in 71 games with the Boston Bruins in 2023-24.
Since then, van Riemsdyk has had mixed results with the Blue Jackets, posting six goals, eight assists, and a minus-8 rating in 35 games. He also did not record a point in eight games from Dec. 15 to Dec. 31. However, since the start of the new year, JVR has undoubtedly been heating up.
In four games since the switch of the calendar year, van Riemsdyk has two goals and five points. This includes a two-assist night in the Blue Jackets' last matchup against the Seattle Kraken on Jan. 9.

While van Riemsdyk's days as a true top-six forward are gone, he still has the ability to provide solid secondary offensive production when playing at his best. This is what he's doing with Columbus right now, and it will be fascinating to see how he builds on his hot streak from here.
In 527 games over two stints and eight seasons as a Flyer, JVR had 146 goals and 297 points.
