Kyle Ross-USA TODAY Sports - Former Flyers Forward Makes Career Pivot

From Jeff Carter and Claude Giroux to Eric Lindros and (one day) Matvei Michkov, the Philadelphia Flyers have had many highly touted players come through their ranks over the years.

Some realized that potential. Others, like Nolan Patrick, never got even close.

On Tuesday, news broke that Patrick is taking a break from professional hockey because of severe migraines and concussions causing health concerns. He has yet to make any official announcement regarding his NHL future.

The 2017 second-overall pick was, unfortunately, injury-prone from the start — going back to his days in the Western Hockey League (WHL).

Patrick played only four seasons in the NHL, three of which were in the orange and black. He battled head trauma his entire career, often keeping him out for long periods at a time.

In his career with the Flyers, Patrick accumulated 30 goals, 40 assists, 70 points and a minus-37 in 197 games.

In 2021-22, he signed a two-year, $2.4-million deal with the Vegas Golden Knights. Patrick would only dress for 25 games due to an injury early in the season that put him on the injury reserve (IR) during his time in Sin City.

February 17, 2022 was Patrick's last game in the NHL. In that game, Patrick received a high hit from Colorado's Nathan MacKinnon. Patrick left the game and never returned.

In September 2022, it was announced that Patrick would not play during the 2022-23 season. He had likely played his last game in the NHL. During his short stint in Las Vegas, he managed two goals and seven points in 25 games.

The 25-year-old finished his career with 32 goals, 45 assists, and 77 points in 222 games played.

Despite his ailments, Patrick is not leaving the game that he loves. He will continue on as a skills specialist, video coach and mentor for The Power Play, which is led by current pro Jayce Hawryluk. It's only a matter of time until we see an official statement from Patrick.
