The Philadelphia Flyers are playing their first game of the season against the Pittsburgh Penguins this season. Tonight is the first meeting of four this year.
Jeff Carter. One member of the Penguins team was a staple of the Flyers, the team that drafted him - Jeff Carter.
Carter is in the final season of a two-year $3.125-million contract. He'll become an unrestricted free agent, but all signs are pointing to the 38-year old hanging up the skates once the season comes to a close.
Jeff Carter. He's seen a slow decrease in production over the last five years. His point totals from the past five seasons are 33, 27, 30, 45, and 29. In the prime of his career he was a 60-point player.
Carter's best production came in his second season with the Flyers. In 82 games he scored 46 goals, 38 assists for 84 points. He averaged 20:56 of ice time per game - also a career high.
Jeff Carter. This year his ice time has dropped significantly. From 13:42 last season to averaging 9:51. It's clear that he's lost a step, and that the end of his career is close.
He hasn't decided for sure if he is done once the curtain falls on this season. But if he is, he will forever be remembered in Philadelphia.
