The Flyers will be looking for a win at home as they face the Flames during their Ed Snider Legacy Game.
The Philadelphia Flyers only had to wait six days to get a chance at redemption against the Calgary Flames, who they lost 4-3 to during their disappointing road trip in late December. The orange and black are in desperate need of a win, especially on home ice, to boost their spirits and take some tension out of everyone's shoulders.
The Flyers are coming into this game after an incredibly frustrating loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Jan. 4 in their first home game after a long stretch of road games. After their All-Star representative Travis Konecny propelled them to a 2-0 lead, the Flyers managed to let the Blue Jackets into the game, forcing overtime and eventually a shootout. Sean Couturier, Bobby Brink, and Tyson Foerster all stepped up, but none of them were able to score.
Perhaps the most frustrating part is that the Flyers haven't necessarily been playing badly. The goaltending of Carter Hart and Sam Ersson has been outstanding (considering how reliant the Flyers tend to be on them during games). Konecny has proven time and time again why he was named to the 2024 All-Star Game, while new linemate Joel Farabee has found an immense amount of confidence and ambition since moving onto the first line.
Morgan Frost and Cam Atkinson are expected to return to the lineup after a much-talked about healthy scratching against the Blue Jackets.
Despite many positives, it's the same old issues that are holding this team back from being victorious. Their power play is still horrible, they create good shots but can't seem to find the back of the net nearly enough, and they're already showing the kind of fatigue that would burn most teams out closer to the end of the season. A win is needed against the Flames, or it may very well be time to worry about the trajectory of the rest of the Flyers' season.
