James van Riemsdyk has played 1,003 games at the NHL level, a feat he will be honored for during the Boston Bruins' game against van Riemsdyk's former team, the Philadelphia Flyers.
JVR played 527 games for the Flyers during his two separate stints in Philadelphia (2009-2012; 2018-2023), recording 146 goals and 151 assists.
The winger was also extremely active in Philadelphia and its surrounding communities, including raising money for Hurricane Sandy relief and donating to the PHL COVID-19 fund.
Speaking to the Boston Herald, van Riemsdyk revealed that he was expecting "70-80 friends and family" to be in attendance for the game.
"That'll be a lot of fun, lots of family, friends, couple of different coaches, some former teammates from along the way," he said. "So it's pretty special...I didn't necessarily expect to have that many people so it'll be pretty cool to share it with them."
In the same article, he mentioned how the turnout was very different from the amount of loved ones that showed out to his NHL debut with the Flyers.
"A few of my buddies [from] New Jersey made the drive down for that," he said. "I think my parents actually missed that game, too, for whatever reason why...It's crazy think that that was like 15-plus years ago now."
Van Riemsdyk played his 1000th game against the Edmonton Oilers in front of a home crowd in Boston.
