According to reports, Philadelphia Flyers center Ryan Johansen is dealing with a hip injury.
Kurz states that the team had learned about Johansen's injury after the trade was processed. That could be a significant detail to remember if more transactions involve him.
Johansen was acquired in the Sean Walker deal to the Colorado Avalanche.
Johansen won't play for the Flyers, and a contract buyout could be on the table at season's end. He has a tough history with John Tortorella and has the same agent as Cutter Gauthier.
Flyers GM Danny Briere said himself that Johansen wouldn't play in the NHL and that he would try to trade him again to give him another chance.
Unfortunately for both sides, a trade didn't happen, and now Johansen is with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in the AHL. Due to this injury, he might be unable to play there either.
Johansen has had leg issues before. In 2017, during the Nashville Predators' run to the Stanley Cup Final, his playoffs were cut short due to acute compartment syndrome.
During game four of the Western Conference Final, Johansen took a hit and grimaced with pain. Once diagnosed after the game, he had surgery within two hours.
The Ryan Johansen and Philadelphia Flyers saga continues to change despite him never playing a single game with the team.
