The Philadelphia Flyers lost their second game of the season series against the Carolina Hurricanes last night. With a 4-1 final score head coach John Tortorella had one word to describe his team's performance.
"Flat"
"The defense did some good work...but not many forwards were going tonight," Tortorella told the media after the game.
John Tortorella. Tortorella doesn't think it's worth the time and energy to pick apart this game.
"I'm not spending too much time with it, we haven't had too many of these... there's no sense in breaking this one down."
There are some games where the best way you can learn from them is by putting them in the rearview mirror.
The head coach has his sights set on today's practice and upcoming game against the New Jersey Devils.
Sean Couturier."I've got a plan for them for practice tomorrow and then we'll get ready for Jersey."
The sign of a good coach is not only knowing what to say, but when to say it. Tortorella knows that in this scenario, the best way forward is to pick up and move on.
He also believes that the game last night takes a backseat to Owen Micciche - the 9-year boy who the Flyers honored last night as part of their Hockey Fights Cancer Night.
Carter Hart."We're talking about wins, losses, flat, this and that, not scoring goals. It doesn't mean a goddamn thing...if you understand the history of this kid and what he's going through."
It's important to accept a loss for what it is. For Tortorella, having Micciche share part of the day with the team was a big win.
