Last week, Flyers general manager Keith Jones hinted more hirings were on the horizon as the organization continues to restructure its front office.

Well, you can now add another notable hire to the list of recent front office additions.

Tuesday afternoon, the Flyers announced the hiring of longtime Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Sharp as a special advisor to hockey operations.

“In adding Patrick Sharp to our group, we are gaining an individual who has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to building an environment of winning at all levels,” Jones said in a statement released by the team.

“Patrick knows what it takes to win, he understands how to convey that to our players and is a relationship maker. He will be a vital component as we continue to build the foundation of the Philadelphia Flyers.”

Sharp, 41, played 15 seasons in the NHL, including three with the Flyers. The Flyers selected Sharp in the third round of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, but traded him (and Eric Meloche) to the Blackhawks midway through the 2005-06 season in exchange for Matt Ellison and a third-round pick. Sharp went on to win three Stanley Cups over a decade-long span as a member of the Blackhawks.

Sharp logged 287 goals and 620 total points in 939 games in the NHL.

After announcing his retirement at the end of the 2017-18 season, Sharp joined NBC Sports, where he closely worked alongside Jones as a studio analyst. More recently, Sharp has served as an advisor to the coaching staff at the University of Vermont since 2021.

Sharp’s hiring isn’t the only notable development to arise for the Flyers’ front office lately. Monday, president and CEO of Spectacor Sports & Entertainment Valerie Camillo stepped down from her role within the organization.

Anthony SanFilippo of Crossing Broad was first on the story.

Camillo was included as part of the Flyers’ new “triumvirate of leadership,” alongside Jones, general manager Danny Briere, head coach John Tortorella, and Comcast Spectacor CEO Dan Hilferty. As a key figure on the business end, the departure of Camillo leaves a considerable hole as the Flyers move into their new epoch.
