Jake Guentzel might return to the Pittsburgh Penguins lineup far sooner than expected.
The Pittsburgh Penguins could have top scorer Jake Guentzel back in their lineup far sooner than initially expected.
With the regular season just a couple of days away, Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan listed Guentzel has a game-time decision for opening night.
Early predictions from the team penned Guentzel as out until at least a few weeks into the season.
Guentzel said he wasn’t sure if he would be ready to go for the first game, but he has at least felt much better on the ice.
After spending a majority of camp skating with other injured players, Guentzel finally started taking reps with the rest of the Penguins team.
Not long after returning to a full-contact practice, Guentzel worked on the power play, furthering his push back into the lineup.
The Penguins had spent much of their camp fitting new faces on the first line in Guentzel’s spot, but after weeks of searching, they may just roll with the real thing.
