3 Unbreakable Sidney Crosby International Stats

It's no secret that Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby has seen ample success as 'Captain Canada' throughout his storied career.

Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby discusses the honor of captaining Team Canada for the upcoming 4 Nations Face-off

Crosby's display of excellence so far at the 4 Nations Face-off has reminded everyone that the 37-year-old veteran is still one-of-a-kind when it comes to donning the colors of his country. His five points in three games have him in a tie with USA defenseman Zach Werenski for the tournament lead in points through round-robin play, and there will be more opportunity to build on that in Thursday's championship game between Team USA and Team Canada.

But among all the hardware, stat lines, and accomplishments - and regardless of what happens Thursday - there are a few international records set by Crosby that don't figure to be broken anytime soon, if ever.

    Here are three of them.

Crosby is the only player in international hockey history to win quadruple gold as captain

Everybody always refers to Crosby's status as a "triple gold" winner - winning three Stanley Cups, two Olympic golds, and an IIHF World Championship gold.

But, technically, he is a "quadruple gold" winner, as he also won gold with Canada at the World Cup of Hockey in 2016 (and, if we want to take this even further, he won gold at the World Junior Championship as well).

And he accomplished all four of those things at least once as Team Canada's captain, which has never been done with reference to the other 30 players in the IIHF triple gold club, let alone in the quadruple gold club.

Bonus fact: After being named World Cup MVP in 2016, Crosby became just the third player in hockey history - Bobby Orr and Wayne Gretzky are the others - to win a Conn Smythe Trophy, Hart Memorial Trophy, and World Cup MVP.

Crosby is the youngest player in hockey history to win an IIHF World Championship scoring title

Something about Crosby that flies a bit under the radar in terms of his legendary hockey career is how quickly he became the world's best player.

He is still the youngest player in NHL history to record 100 points in a season, as he put up 102 points in his 2005-06 rookie season. He is also the youngest player to reach the 200-point plateau, as well as the youngest to record consecutive 100-point seasons from 2005-07.

But, internationally, Crosby also has a pretty unbreakable record. In 2006 at the IIHF World Championship - where Crosby was an assistant captain - he recorded eight goals and 16 points in nine games to secure the tournament's scoring title at 18 years and 287 days old, becoming the youngest player in IIHF history to win an IIHF World Championship scoring title.

Crosby holds the record for consecutive international games won at 26

Not only is Crosby the winningest international player in hockey history - combining his individual awards, championships, and 47 career wins - he also holds the international record for consecutive games won.

Prior to Canada's 3-1 defeat at the hands of Team USA during 4 Nations Face-off round-robin play on Saturday, Crosby had won 26 consecutive games at the international level - which is the most in international hockey history.

As impressive as his overall international record of 47-6-1 is, it's hard to imagine any individual player coming anywhere close to winning that many consecutive games at the international level ever again, especially with USA Hockey's spike in international prominence over the last decade.

Crosby is hockey's ultimate winner, and that doesn't figure to change anytime soon.
