The Pittsburgh Penguins nominee for the 2024 King Clancy Award is forward Bryan Rust.
PITTSBURGH – The NHL has announced that Bryan Rust will be the Pittsburgh Penguins nominee for the 2023-24 King Clancy Memorial Trophy. The league announced its complete list of nominees, with one player per team being up for the award, and the Penguins will be represented by Rust for the second time in his career.
The King Clancy Award has been given out annually since 1988 to the NHL player “who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community."
Rust is a deserving nominee for the Penguins this season as he opened up about his own speech impediment with Seth Rorabaugh of Trib Live. Despite a stutter, Rust regularly speaks with the media and on behalf of the Penguins through good times and bad.
Rust also invites kids to each Penguins home game through the Seats of Strength initiative. Kids get VIP tickets and do a meet-and-greet with Rust following the game.
Over the years, Rust has regularly been involved with charitable initiatives and has always been a top ambassador for the Penguins and the game of hockey.
Former Penguins Nick Bjugstad (Arizona Coyotes) and Marc-Andre Fleury (Minnesota Wild) are also among the 32 nominees.
No Penguins player has ever won the King Clancy Award.
