Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan provided injury updates on multiple players.
The Pittsburgh Penguins recently moved forward Bryan Rust to long-term injured reserve and for the first time since exiting the lineup, he suited up and skated.
Prior to the Penguins’ morning skate, Rust took to the ice for the first time as he works his way back from an upper-body injury.
Rust is in the midst of a resurgent season that has seen him record 20 points (10G-10A) in 22 games.
When in the lineup, Rust has ridden on the Penguins first line with Sidney Crosby and Jake Guentzel as one of the best trios in the NHL.
Since he was placed on long-term injured reserve, Rust is not eligible to return to the lineup until January 2.
Rust wasn’t alone in finally hitting the ice again as free agent tryout Jesse Puljujarvi also skated ahead of his teammates.
According to head coach Mike Sullivan, Puljujarvi is going through a rehabilitation process that is working him through both off-ice and on-ice workouts.
Puljujarvi is working his way back from offseason double hip surgery and part of the Penguins process is getting him back up to game speed.
Sullivan also stated that injured forward Matt Nieto is beginning off-ice workouts as he rehabs from his own injury.
