The Pittsburgh Penguins will be without Bryan Rust on a day-to-day basis.
The Pittsburgh Penguins were given some harsh injury news in the days following their shutout victory over the Vegas Golden Knights.
In one big swoop, the Penguins announced that Chad Ruhwedel and Rickard Rakell are expected to miss a lengthy amount of time, P.O. Joseph is still out, and Bryan Rust was being evaluated for a lower-body injury.
An update regarding Rust was finally returned and it was yet another blow for the team, but thankfully not a huge one.
Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan stated that Rust will be out ‘day-to-day’ with a lower-body injury.
Vinnie Hinostroza missed the contest against the Golden Knights, but will be available to play against the New York Rangers on Thanksgiving Eve.
Matt Nieto missed practice for a maintenance day, and will also be available to play.
With Rust out day-to-day, the Penguins will likely see the return of Jansen Harkins who was recently recalled from the AHL.
Alex Nylander also seems likely to make his season debut as he was recalled with Harkins.
To fill in on the defensive side of things, the Penguins signed Dmitri Samorukov to an NHL contract; he may make his Penguins debut against the Rangers, but most of the lineup is a game-time decision.
Rookie defenseman John Ludvig falls in that category as a game-time decision, as well.
